Senior Protocol Specialist
About the Position: Serves as Senior Protocol Specialist within the Executive Services Office of US Africa Command (USAFRICOM). Has wide latitude for independent decisions and actions and exercises judgment, initiative and knowledge to make decisions.
- Serves as senior technical advisor for the Executive Services/Protocol Program.
- Identifies and recommends correct protocol procedures and precedence for USAFRICOM HQ exercising a comprehensive understanding of Executive Services operations.
- Plans, coordinates, and implements high-level military and civilian, foreign and domestic visits/functions.
- Plans, develops, and coordinates the reception and departure honors and logistical support of distinguished visitors; including the development and execution of local itineraries for official and private social events.
- Acts as official representative for the Commander and Command Group at points of arrival, meetings/briefings, social events, and other official activities scheduled for visitors to attend.
- Exercises primary tactical, administrative, and record-keeping control over the command's Official Representation Fund (ORF) program.
- Develops and executes the budget ensuring the office stays within legal and budgetary limits.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) planning, coordinating, or directing the execution of protocol services, operations, events, and activities; (2) advising senior staff on all matters pertaining to protocol/customs of the military and other nations; AND 3) leading projects or teams in the accomplishment of complex protocol work to include executive mess activities and transportation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
